Ecuador

APR Energy completed the restoration and renovation of a school located across the street from the power plant site. APR Energy staff and contractors completed electrical maintenance, installed a potable water supply and water pump for the agricultural system, built a water cistern for the restrooms, repaired a sanitary sewer system, and painted the school. The school is attended by over 1,000 students. APR Energy also fabricated recycling receptacles to be donated to the local government and used in an environmental conservation campaign.

Costa Rica

A local school near the Barranca power plant suffered for three years without electricity after thieves stole the copper wiring from the electrical system. APR Energy recognizes the positive correlation between educational success and reliable access to electricity; therefore, the local staff decided to help. Together, APR Energy employees and local citizens volunteered their time to re-wire the electrical system, renovate and repaint the school structure, install security and fire alarms, and create an outside environment free of hazardous items. School supplies and materials were also donated to the children and teachers. The school is now a safer institution with a higher level of education. APR Energy has also worked with the customer to support local social events throughout the community.

Botswana

To reinforce Botswana’s national goal to maintain an educated and informed nation by 2016, the proposition for the installation and operation of a fully functioning computer lab became a reality in February of 2011. APR Energy, along with its local labor provider and customer, installed and equipped a classroom with 38 new computers, air conditioning, ceramic tiling, and a security system. Each computer was equipped with relevant educational software, which is expected to be used in the daily curriculum of the technology center. Information technology (IT) and computer training services were allocated to the selected personnel for the first three (3) months. These teachers are well-trained in the use, management, and instruction of computers and have been tasked to maintain and manage the computer lab and will be held accountable by the Headmaster of the Matshalagabedi Primary School, who must provide regular reporting to the Ministry of Education.

Peru

APR Energy donated computers to three Municipal Community Centers near its plant in Trujillo, Peru. Local University professors and students have been providing weekly classes for children and adults to teach computer skills and improve literacy within the area. This program created jobs within the community for full-time teachers, IT staff, and technicians, upon training from the University. Other activities have included educational seminars promoting environmental conservation, the sponsoring of cultural trips for local students to visit National Heritage sites, and the hosting of holiday events for primary school children.
