APR Energy - HFO (Heavy Fuel Oil) Power Solutions
HFO engine technologies have been utilized in power generation applications for decades, initially in the Marine Industry and later in fixed power plants. Today, the majority of permanent HFO power plants are based upon 5-10MW units which provide the most economical solution per installed kW. However, units of this size do not allow for fast track mobilization and set-up and require a significant amount of site preparation and infrastructure before the installation can be completed.
APR’s Fast Track Heavy Fuel Oil (HFO) solutions are based upon multiple 1.0MW(e) industrial engine generating sets. The engine design and containerized package approach will provide a reliable source of power that can be rapidly deployed as quickly as a diesel power module solution and operational within days anywhere in the world.

Fuel is the most expensive element of any power project and with oil and fuel prices on the increase, efficiency and fuel choice is even more critical. With HFO being almost half the price of Diesel fuel, customers will experience huge cost savings by utilizing HFO technology. The unique modular design enables APR Energy, LLC to provide fast track turnkey HFO solutions for temporary power applications whilst maintaining very competitive pricing even on short term projects.
The HFO package utilizes HFO, Bunker C or light / intermediate crude fuel oils for use in base load, standby or peaking power applications. It can also utilize standard diesel fuel for interim requirements. All the fuel processing equipment for heating and clean-up is included in this modular solution, as well as a complete tank farm and bulk HFO storage if necessary.
The medium speed engine package also enables highly competitive levels of availability to be achieved on an ongoing basis. The on-board diesel start / shutdown system reduces starting times and system maintenance. The use of standard medium voltage switchgear and an advanced control system, allows for automatic or manual paralleling, automatic synchronization, load sharing, soft load/unload and monitoring, as well as engine and generator protection. The units may also be monitored and controlled remotely. The units’ exhaust emissions levels are compliant with the World Bank’s international guidelines.
